Introduction
to the Course
This course is intended to equip the enquiring student
with the critical skills needed for understanding and
explaining the concept of Caribbean civilization.
Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:

Develop an
awareness of the main process of cultural
development in Caribbean societies, highlighting the
factors, the problematics and the creative output
that have fed the emergence of Caribbean identities

Develop a
perception of the Caribbean as wider than island
nations or linguistic blocs
-
Stimulate students’
interest in and commitment to Caribbean civilization
and to further their self-determination
Course Content
The course is divided into ten units:

Unit 3 - The
Diversified Caribbean in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth

Unit 10 - Writing the Diversified Caribbean: The Role
of Historical Writing in the Creation of the Region’s
